Failure is inevitable. There’s no way around it.
And failure feels bad.
When we lose, when we experience setbacks, when we get stuck, that can be frustrating and deflating.
But mourning the failure – fast – and moving on is the key. Here’s how:
- Talk about it with family, friends, and colleagues. While we may want to run and hide, the best medicine is to talk it through with those who know us best. They are the best ones to shake you up and boost you up again.
- Don’t obsess. Continuing to beat yourself up won’t do you any favors. Think about what went wrong, but then force the failure out of your brain with other positive thoughts of gratitude and new beginnings.
- Don’t make excuses. Own the failure, learn from it, and then simply pledge to do better next time.
- Find the silver lining – it always exists. There’s always another day, another meeting, another opportunity. Reminding yourself of that builds resiliency.
Failure can be a bitter pill to swallow but it doesn’t have to break you.
Learn from failure and adapt to come back even better than before.
