Adversity

Adversity comes in all shapes and sizes.

For some, it’s the daily grind of stress and self-doubt. For others, it’s the gut punch of loss, failure, or unexpected change.

Whether it’s a missed opportunity, a health scare, or a major life transition, we all face moments—big and small—when life doesn’t go as planned. And while we can’t control when adversity shows up, we can choose how we face it.

Chris Greco’s “8 Steps to Overcoming Adversity” is a compelling guide that blends personal narrative with solid strategies. Drawing from his own experience of losing his father at fifteen, and watching his mother raise three kids alone, Greco offers a primer on resilience grounded in Faith and personal growth. I had the chance to speak with Greco recently, here are his eight steps:

  1. Affirm, “I’m not a victim.” You can’t control what happens sometimes, but you can control your response.

  2. Accept adversity as a necessity. Struggle is not an exception but a necessary part of growth and transformation.

  3. Develop a self-sufficient mindset. Cultivate confidence in your ability to solve problems and move forward independently.

  4. Establish a routine. Create structure in your day to bring stability and momentum even when life feels chaotic.

  5. Learn and do almost anything. Believe in your capacity to grow, knowing that skills and strength can be developed over time.

  6. Help the person next to you. Support others in their struggles to lift them up, and also bring purpose to your own journey.

  7. Use prayer as a gateway between panic and peace. Turn to prayer or reflection to calm your mind and re-energize with strength and hope.

  8. Share your story and mentor others. Let your experiences light the way for others experiencing adversity.

Whether you’re dealing with small disruptions or life-altering storms, Greco’s story and strategies offer a sense of purpose, clarity, and encouragement. And the golden reminders we all need, everyday: you are not alone, and you are more capable than you think.

Have a great week-
