Courage, Camille – The Sunday Snippet [12.11.11]

Fear is natural, it’s part of our daily lives, and it can be crippling if not successfully neutralized.

“Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn’t do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.” – Mark Twain

The best way to deal with fear is to keep things in perspective, apply some positive common sense, and keep your feet moving like all great running backs. Inspirational words, phrases and quotes like the one above can do wonders. Here are a few more that I keep in my desk:

• Win, lose, or draw, don’t forget that life goes on.
• You can’t possibly know everything, so don’t fear what you don’t know.
• “Do something. Even if it does turn out to be the wrong thing, it’s better than doing nothing.” – Sister Andrea Rodgers, St. James Parochial School, 1981
• Play your own game, in your own style. Don’t worry what others think.

Fear strikes us all – especially anyone starting a business, leading a business, interviewing for a job, or rallying people around a cause. Get used to greeting fear, acknowledging fear, understanding fear – and overcoming fear.
