I got schooled this week. In fact, I’ve gotten schooled many times over the last few weeks. And it’s been awesome.
I’m not talking about being dominated on the basketball court or losing big in a tennis match. I’m talking about meeting folks and companies that are impressing me with their deep knowledge and understanding of their industry and their jobs, and then sharing their insights and teaching me what they know.
Are you selling or teaching your prospects? As author and entrepreneur Jason Fried points out, you can put your name on sponsorships, place ads on Google and send sales people into the field, but your competitors are doing the same things. He recommends getting more into the mindset of teaching.
Teaching your prospects and clients rather than selling them builds more trust and loyalty, builds better connections, and delivers value so people will be your fans even if they don’t buy from you.
