Being by yourself once in a while is good for you.
Though it can feel uncomfortable at first, it calms you and helps you engage better with others. It allows you to recharge, take stock and face the day with more confidence.
It’s not loneliness. That’s different.
This is about choosing to spend time alone.
Being alone allows time to sit with the positive as well as the negative in our lives. When we recharge and reflect it helps us better handle negative emotions and experiences, like stress and burnout.
Dr. Thuy-vy Nguyen, an assistant professor in the department of psychology at Durham University, who studies solitude, says: “Take the opportunity to say, ‘This is the time where I can give something to myself,’ and just endorse that, in this moment, you are your first choice.
So, take time for you. It’s smart, good – and healthy.
Have a great week.
