I know the complex problems of today cannot be fixed with a few words.
And simple refrains won’t open hardened hearts, soothe real pain and suffering, or fix injustices overnight.
But we can remind ourselves of the fundamentals of human decency. Because the fundamentals – of anything – never lose value and never go out of style. And they have the power to heal.
Here’s a fundamental mantra I think you can rally around, no matter who you are or where you are: be kind, be helpful.
It’s easy to remember and understand. It promotes listening, empathy and active assistance. It’s a contribution we can make individually.
It also doesn’t cost billions, necessitate new laws, or depend on politics.
Fundamental change requires a return to the fundamentals.
It’s keeping things simple. It’s treating people right, with kindness and helpfulness. It’s doing what you say you’re going to do.
Have a great week.
